Babylon 5 : season 3 episodes

(spoilers)

[Ivanova] The Babylon project was our last best hope for peace. It failed.
But in the year of the Shadow War it became something greater:
our last best hope ... for victory.
The year is 2260. The place: Babylon 5.

3.8. Messages from Earth

Sheridan discovers a terrifying alliance between the Shadows and a race that is supposed to be friendly.

Dr Mary Kirkish: Nancy Stafford

3.9. Point of No Return

Riots break out when the Earth Force president declares martial law across all Earth-controlled territories. Lady Morella tells Londo that he has three more chances to escape damnation, and that both he and Vir will be Emperor.

Lady Morella: Majel Barrett

3.10. Severed Dreams (1997 Hugo winner)

Earthforce sends destroyers to seize control of Babylon 5 but sympathetic cruiser captain Sandra Hiroshi manages to alert the station. They hold out until Delenn turns up with a Minbari Fleet in the nick of time, menacingly telling the Earth fleet to "be somewhere else".

3.11. Ceremonies of Light and Darkness

When Babylon 5 declares itself officially independent from Earth, most Nightwatch personnel are shipped off the station. A group of terrorists remains and embarks on a campaign of abduction and assassination. Londo, meanwhile, acts against Centauri aggression.

Sniper: Paul Perri | Boggs: Don Stroud | Lenann: Kim Strauss

This episode marks the mid-point of creator J Michael Straczynski's five-year 110-episode master plan, and is deliberately timed to take the action in a new direction following last week's declaration of independence from earth. The most visible change comes with the new uniforms, which incorporate influences from the Minbari, Rangers and Earthforce cultures.

3.12. Sic Transit Vir

Centaurian Vir surreptitiously aids Narn refugees. He also discovers that his family have arranged a marriage for him.

Lyndisty: Carmen Thromas

Vir Cotto comes to the fore in this episode, having been missing on Minbar for most of the season. Stephen Furst, who plays the Centauri aide, had been expected to feature regularly but was unwilling to turn down a part in Fox sitcom Misery Loves Company , thus reducing his availability for B5. Unfortunately for him, but fortunately for us, the sitcom was subsequently cancelled after eight episodes so Vir will now be appearing more frequently.

3.13. A Late Delivery from Avalon

Sheridan urges the planetary leaders to ratify the new peace treaty, and Marcus and Franklin encounter a mysterious traveller who claims to be King Arthur.

David McIntyre: Michael York

3.14. Ship of Tears

Sheridan forms an uneasy alliance with an old enemy to overcome the Shadows. President Clark, meanwhile, is trying to turn the Interstellar News network into a propaganda tool.

Earthforce President Clark: Gary McGurk | Carolyn: Joan McMurty

The sinister Bester returns and Captain Sheridan learns more about the Psi Corps cop's past. Has Sheridan finally found a weapon he can use against the Shadows?

3.15. Interludes and Examinations

Londo is challenged by Morden, his sinister Shadow contact, because of the reduced Centauri military campaign that Londo advocated. Yet, when Londo's lover is poisoned, he looks elsewhere for the culprit. Meanwhile, Franklin's addiction to stimulants is affecting his work.

3.16. War without End (part 1)

Ambassador Jeffrey Sinclair returns to Babylon 5 in response to an ancient message that explains how Babylon 4 disappeared. The Minbari and the Vorlons had transported the station 1,000 years into the past and now have need of the time travel equipment again.

3.17. War without End (part 2)

Sheridan is catapulted 17 years into the future where he finds himself held captive by Emperor Londo.

3.18. Walkabout

Sheridan organises an attack on the Shadows, using the telepaths to incapacitate their ships. But are his spacecraft strong enough to protect the attack team?

3.19. Grey 17 is Missing

Garibaldi is taken hostage by a cult group hiding in a secret level of the station. Delenn is named Ranger One, but not everyone is in favour.

Neroon: John Vickery | Jeremiah: Robert Englund

3.20. And the Rock Cried Out No Hiding Place

Londo uses G'Kar and Vir in a deadly scheme to gain power in the Centauri royal court.

Virini: François Giroday

This episode homes in on the devious machinations of Centauri Ambassador Londo Mollari. In three years, actor Peter Jurasik has taken the character from comedic beginnings to the edge of tragedy. His frowning face in the opening credits betrays the inner turmoil he has had to confront for his part in the death and enslavement of numerous innocent Narns. By contrast, former Narn ambassador G'Kar (Andreas Katsulas) was seemingly treacherous at the start, but has increasingly displayed a striking dignity in the face of adversity.

3.21. Shadow Dancing

The Shadows launch a major offensive, but the White Star fleet is waiting for them. Back on the station, Franklin has a spiritual experience, and "meets himself", after being mugged.

3.22. Z'Ha'Dum

Sheridan receives an invitation to come and hear what this is all about: what this is really all about, not what he thinks it's about, or what he's been told. He is asked to come, alone and unarmed, into the very heart of Shadows territory, their homeworld Z'ha'dum where, Kosh said, he must not go, for if he does, he will die.

Anna Sheridan | Melissa Gilbert

J M Straczynski set a record by writing all 22 episodes for this season: the first time in US TV history that one person has undertaken such a task (Terry Nation wrote all 13 of Blake's 7 's first year episodes).
