Instructions for using the Netscape World Wide Web browser

You can access the Web from the workstations in room X/A001 in the Computer Science Department.

To begin, sit down at a workstation and press the ``Home'' button at the top of the screen - that is, move the mouse pointer (the white arrow on the screen) over the spot on the screen marked ``Home'', and press the left mouse button once.

Underlined text in blue or purple is called a link. If you ``click on a link'' (i.e. move the mouse pointer to the link and press the left mouse button), a new page of information relevant to the link will be displayed. You can tell when you're pointing to a link, because the mouse pointer changes from a white arrow to a little pointing hand.

The ``Back'' button at the top of the screen will take you back to the previous page.

Some pages are wider or (more often) taller than the ``window'' on the screen. In such cases you can use the arrow keys and the PAGE UP/DOWN keys on the keyboard to move the text within the window so you can read all of it. (Alternatively, you can ``scroll'' the text by ``dragging the scroll bar''.)

If you get stuck, ask someone who's wearing a ``Can I Help You'' badge. Don't expect help with the competition answers though!
