Paul Emberson

I am a Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science at the Universtity of York. I am a member of the Real-Time Systems group and work on the SEBASE project.

Research Interests

I am currently working towards a PhD on enhancing the flexibiltiy of system archtiectures using heuristic search techniques. My current work concentrates on real-time systems architectures and selecting mappings for allocating software to a distributed hardware platform. Anything in the fields of schedulability analysis, optimisation techniques and architecture modelling is of interest.

Having worked in industry prior to starting my PhD, I have a general interest in new methods for making software easier to develop and maintain. My PhD fits into this area by automating some development processes and hopefully creating a more flexible system which is easier and cheaper to maintain and enhance. However, there are a huge number of other issues to consider such as language design and whether programming languages are even a good way of creating software. One day, I may spend some time on this.

I did my Masters Thesis (see publications) on quantum computing algorithms as it was a subject I wanted to learn about. Unfortunately, I have neither the time nor the brain power to do more work in this area though there are others in the department who do.
