Background
Andrew Rae (Drew) is a system safety engineer with experience as a
consultant, Independent Safety Assessor and project safety engineer in
a range of application domains.
He has worked closely with rail signalling and software-intensive
development projects to earn regulatory approval, and has provided
independent oversight of safety processes, safety documentation and
safety design features on other rail projects. His safety engineering
experience also covers aerospace, military and medical applications.
Drew is currently working as a Research and Teaching Fellow at the
University of York. He teaches on a range of modules as part of the MSc
Safety Critical Systems Engineering and MSc Gas Turbine Control
programs.
He is Chair of the Masters Teaching Committee (Part time programs) MTC2
and module owner for Safety Management Systems and Through-Life Safety.
Drew's research interests focus on real-world application of safety
principles, with particular respect to organisational decision making.
He has a particular interest in research evaluation - how we know that
system safety practices make a positive difference.
