Review

Wow!

The whole season is a build-up to the fateful final climax at the Hellmouth. The tone starts off dark, and gets progressively darker, with portents of doom, and Buffy suffering like never before, yet even so still manages the odd funny episode, and the brilliant banter that characterises earlier, lighter seasons. Like Angel season 4 (with which it has some mini-crossovers, although Sunnydale never seems to hear that the sun has gone out in LA), telling a season-long story allows great depth, used here to wonderful effect. It keeps you guessing, right up to the end. The finale is just stunning.

Sadly, the end of an era... But what a fantastic era! And what a way to go out.
