Colonel Tevra has been sent as Viceroy to the conquered Forest Kingdom to cure years of corruption and put down a potential rebellion. She also has to battle with supernaturals, with her brilliant Captain Hetwith, with the bigotry of the local lords, and with the wizard Forest King himself, whilst trying to impose an order mostly acceptable to the populace.
Good fun as Tevra tries to fathom the strange local customs, and as the various other characters circle warily round each her, jockeying for advantage.
